    Food addiction doesn't just mean craving chocolate. Cheese, meats and sugar all release substances that trigger the brain's pleasure center, according to Dr. Neal Barnard, author of "Breaking the Food Seduction."
      Barnard, adjunct associate professor of medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine and president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, will be talking about the science behind food cravings on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 E. 400 South.   Details, Parking, Map & Driving Instructions link.

Aug 20 2002 entree:
    Working at home and locally! -- (We just finished our Davis County Fair) -- Now I am preparing for our up-coming participation at our Utah State Fair-- then WorldFest and More! --

    I just finished 4 days, each with 14 hours of non-stop caring labor, presenting free materials and teaching attendees at our Davis County Fair, where several thousands passed by and viewed our displays. Hundreds took materials and asked for understanding in our healing issues.
    Dear Joyce Kinmont - my supportive friend and colleague in education - who I invited into my secured space (and she reimbursed half of my booth fee) - was also abled to provide her HomeSchoolUtah and LDSHome-Education support and make more connections for those great moms needing help.
    I also invited wonderfully concerned Dave Hansen and his colleagues to present their efforts in his Davis County NoToxicWater anti-fluoridation efforts! - Efforts which honorably compliments my own Water and Life labor. His literature and direct teaching opportunities with Fair attendees far exceeded five hundred individuals. And many more had visual awareness established in their passing and browsing.
    So a very effective and fruitfully blessing opportunity for hundreds of attendees was provided through our investment in sacrifice, resources and time!
    I will be laboring at home and locally for a few weeks to try to make up those spent resources of mine, including the $500, which I diverted from family needs to put into the Davis County Fair and manning it fully through those 4 days and now my struggle acquired $1,430 more to secure space at the Utah State Fair; and I must also make additional reserves for that time not working and the materials I will have to provide so I can man that booth for 10 full days again for 14 hours each non-stop at the Utah State Fair. I also have my home, utilities, and more printing, driving and operational cost fall due in this same time frame again!
    I have stretched my thin resources, indebted myself (and as consequence, my family) more and just now been able to arrange for that opportunity to display and provide information for those visitors at our Utah State Fair, where at least 70,000 or more are projected to attend and be potentially benefited!
   The Utah State Fair's events begin Thur, Sept 5, and runs to Sun, Sept 20, 2002.
   I will use my large space, #19 & 20 in Market Building, (it was the last weather protected space available) for LifeSave Biological Research and Education with our associate efforts; Joyce Kinmont's - Home School Utah and LDS Home School Association, Jack Monnett's - LDS Archive Publishing, Dr Ann Blake Tracy's Drug Awareness , my own WaterAndLife, CitizensForSafeDrinkingWater and other auxiliary issues, like MillennialChildren etc.
    I will personally promote healthy life style choices, the "5-A-Day" National Health program, sustainable agriculture, animal based disease to man Zoonoses understanding, safe water and Utah State water conservation information, and our humane and rational man-with-nature relationships!
    I have also invited again into my booth space there, Dave Hansen's - NoToxicWater initiative team and our Davis County, November re-vote efforts to Stop Fluoridation and its consequent contamination of our communities water supplies.
    Please come, learn and enjoy! Make the $1,430 and cost of freely given materials in which I have (trembling in added struggle) invested, hoping to bless many, possibly 70,000+ moms, children and dads, in those 10 - 14 hour long - days! Please come and /or send your family and friends; make it worth my (and my families and kindly helping Mary Mendenhall Child's) sacrifice!
    Their is an entrance fee (less than a movie) paid by you to the FairPark to enter this Fair -- but once in, access to my area and my educational handouts, materials, display, educational videos and education is free! Also you will have access the other interesting and great exhibits there!
    (Of course the carnival rides and food venders are not  free -- but about equal to Lagoon's costs -- if you care to participate in them.)

    I am also laboring added long hours so I can meet the needs to make ourselves available at the WorldFest (30,000 world influential attendees) in LA afterwards. This event affords and re-affirms our connections and contributes my experience and knowledge to the world wide network of honorable, conscientious research and education specialists and in this critical effort to enlighten and heal humanity, and preserve our delicate and clearly only possible livable home in the reachable universe!
    I have also been ask to testify in several City and State Water Council meetings (as I did at our State Capitols Fluoride Implementation Task Force Committee's meeting, Arizona's Environmental Epi, Santa Monica's City Council, Woods Cross City Council, etc) and do some TV and media interviews in the meantime!
    Then I have been asked by education-desiring moms in Mesa Ariz to help them, so I will work at finding a way to make that happen, somehow, as I go, before or by September's end!
  -- So when do I get to be with my family or sleep? -- Not so often for now! -- Thankfully my good wife fills the gap for me! -- and my children are kind and unusually understanding about it all! I do appreciate and love her and them, and for all they sacrifice for you!

Aug 7 2002 entree: Davis County -- and More! --
    I have stretched my resources, indebted myself (and my family) some more and just been able to arrange for an opportunity to display and provide information at my home community's Davis County Utah Fair where 30,000 or more are projected to attend.
   The Fair's events begin next week, Wednesday August 14, and run to Saturday 17, 2002.  I will use my extra large space, #600E in North Exhibit Building, Hall #2  (it was their last space available) with our associate efforts: Joyce Kimont's LDS Home School Association, Jack Monett's LDS Archive Publishing, Dr Ann Blake Tracy, Drug Awareness and other LifeSave auxiliary issues. I will personally promote healthy life style choices, the "Five A Day" National Health program, sustainable agriculture, animal based disease to man understanding, safe water and conservation information, and our humane and rational man-with-nature relationships!
    I have also invited into our booth space, Dave Hansen's NoToxicWater referendum team and our November re-vote efforts to stop fluoridation of our communities water supplies within Davis County.

    Please come, learn and enjoy! Their is no entrance fee for you to this Fair or its exhibits -- which is great, and makes your family's Fair experience do-able without cost and easy -- at least to access my area and my educational handouts and materials and the other interesting and great exhibits there!

    I am also hoping that I can find the means to make ourselves available at the Utah State Fair next month (which portends 70,000 attendees) and WorldFest (30,000 world influential attendees) in LA afterwards. Then I have been asked by education-desiring moms in Mesa to help them, so I will work at finding a way to make that happen, somehow, as I go, before or by Septembers end!

April 29 2002: Last minute note:
    I will be at Hill Air Force Base Health & Fitness Show May 1st 9am - 3pm, invited to give encouragement to my former Airmen colleagues and teaching them through my own returned health experience -- and consequent weight control successes. Being trim, healthy and clear headed as a consequence of having good health is critical to flight requirements.
    I miss flying and laboring with my great Air Force friends, so it will be exciting to me to be again surrounded by some of America's very finest! I hope I can be of benefit to them in return for their courageous service for me, my family, my community and my nation! See Calendar  . After program Award

April 22 2002: Have had to labor at home! Having used up all my last resources for a while in efforts to secure and publicize vegetarian eating to benefit of the Olympic and Paralympic athletes, the media, visitors (and you), I have had to set most of this labor aside while I try to earn enough to catch up again, and take care of my family and handle the ongoing obligations (like this web service and its mandatory phone service for your learning benefit). So I have not been able to afford any travel, except local, while I work near home. Besides my vehicle (that Mary Mendenhall lovingly provided) needs seriously long overdue repair and love. So it will take a while for me to regain extra reserves for travel, printing and make giving more of my time and materials possible again. I also hope to make the fees required for space at the Utah State Fair ($650) again, that I have given for  each event to provide for effective exposure to our community, and I must make the similar costs for other fairs, symposiums and events (each event has fees that must be satisfied prior to the event, usually months before, like the State Fair's). -- These efforts do provide the best response for the investment as I try to be visible and help many find healing's truth wherever I can. Also I am still paying for our past University programs and those public presentations (like I arranged for Howard Lyman, Len Horowitz, Robert Cohen and the others) which all combined left me over 6 grand in debt. So be patient with me while I struggle to get ahead again enough to support more of this (my unpaid) labor. -- My caring wife and family are most patient, living humbly and going without to graciously benefit you and many others!
    Sorry to those who haven't received "Diet Decisions" or other items requested, for the moment. I have not been able to afford the postage to get those books into the mail yet. -- I will get them mailed as soon as I can make it (one at a time if needs be).
    Though things are tight for me right now, please don't hesitate to call for my savvy or understanding help. I will do anything I can. I keep a phone by me, even as I work, wherever it is possible. --- And then by any chance you should become a multi-millionaire, please remember our labors and its lifetime of blessings and real savings for you. Or if you need Heaven's compassionate credits or an earthly tax write-off, and you need to force any excess Federal Reserve Notes upon us, or provide some other help in this effort, we won't complain -- and neither will those others we could then reach!
    I will be at The LDS Home Educators Association Conference, June 7th anyway! Other programs with expense must remain pending resources for the moment. tlr
   March 27 2002: This month has flown as I have also worked the Paralympic efforts: to open good food opportunities to the athletes, media and visitors, see EatVegSLC.org or EatVegUtah.org and also try to meet my domestic responsibilities too! I will be speaking my regular scheduled classes (see below) and a special presentation"Disease and Dying - The Animal Connection!" in Ogden on the 6th of April; then hopfully go as I have been requested, to Cedar, Saint George, L.V. and on to LA and Riverside (later in April and May) - if I can make sufficient over my family needs to cover that travel. My labors for making us visible and to benefit the Olympians and Paralympians took all I had. So I am working as usual to recover in my other labors. When arraigned, my travel and lectures will be posted here! I will also be at The LDS Home Educators Association Conference, June 7th tlr
    Feb 27 2002: Sorry I have not posted currently here lately.  My excuse? The Winter Olympics!
   The last two months have been strenuous for me! Operating as a committee-of-one, on grocery change -- I prepared and worked towards and through the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympics Feb 8-24, 2002.
   My labor and focus was to identify, publicize and finally get the information to the Olympians, of those restaurant and food providers that could provide appropriate food for the greater number of our intelligent vegetarian /vegan Olympic Athletes and visitors, like Michelle Kwan, Jamie Sale and David Polleteir, Scott Hamilton and so many more carefully self protecting and health conscious performers as they are! I (and my son working at the village) made it so they were able to find good food, outside the hamburgers, hot dogs and coke of the official venus vendors and of the athletic village housing menus.
   You can see and benefit from our efforts for them at EatVeg.org, EatVegSLC.org, EatVegUtah.org, (VegetarianEating.org or VeganEating.org). I am so grateful to Eric Ward, his Mom, Scott Evans, and the other great young people of UARC, whose labors I could build upon as they produced the printed Wasatch Front Vegetarian Eating Guide!
  I will continue trying to expand on those effort as we also host the World Paralympics beginning March 7 - 15 (and for ourselves, visitors and tourist afterward). Then I will try to get to the many other needs and requests given me. tlr
